Toftlund, a city in the municipality of Tønders, is located in South-Denmark, close to the German
border. It has 3,350 inhabitants. Between 1864 and 1920, Toftlund belonged to Germany and
during the years 1904-1939 there was a railway connection between the countries. Most of the
buildings in the city were erected by the Germans before the first World War. This area in mid
South Jutland is renowned for recreation. There are open plains, meandering streams, beautiful
lakes, large areas covered in heather and delightful forests – and the North Sea is still not far off
which you can sense, when the sea fog comes in with the West wind.
