Hoffmann Re-Union

Hoffmann Family 2006 Re-Union Las Vegas

Carl Hofman-Bang, Erik Hofman-Bang, Gustaf Hofman-Bang, Joakim & Linda Hogfeldt participated to the great Hoffmann Family re-union in Las Vegas 28-29 May 2006. We left Sweden early in the morning of 23 May on British Airways flight #771 to Los Angeles via London Heathrow. After touching down at LAX, we rented a Jeep Commander SUV and headed south to Rancho Mirage, a resort not far from Palm Springs. We arrived at the Marriott Rancho Las Palmas just in time to catch a dip in the beautiful pool. The next day we enjoyed the +100F degree sun around the pool area and later drove up to the Cabazon outlet village to do some shopping. In the evening we had some great food at Babes Bar-B-Que Grill & Brewhouse. On Thursday the 25th we started our journey to Las Vegas, taking route 247 through Morongo Valley, Landers, Victorville and finally Barstow. Here, we turned on to the main freeway 15 to Las Vegas which we reached in the afternoon. After checking in at the stunning Excalibur Hotel, we had plenty of time to relax at the pool. On Friday we met most of the Hoffmann clan including Jon, Lynn, Johann, Carl & Carolyn and many others. Since Gustaf was very keen on going shooting, together with Johann and Dawn we drove out to the Gunstore on Tropicana Avenue. What a thrill that was!  All of us except Joakim blasted away two rounds (50 bullets) with the US military version of the M16. Joakim chose a hand-gun instead. The experience quite chilling to say the least! In the evening, we had dinner at the Hofbräuhaus, an almost exact replica of the Hofbräuhaus in Munich. Johann duHoffmann won a beer-stein contest being the person to be able to hold a one-liter glass straight out for almost five minutes! On Saturday around noon the Hoffmann re-union got underway  with Jon greeting all of us in the main banquet room of the hotel. A tremendous amount of preparation work had been done by Jon and Lynn to make the event a great memory for all of us. On one of the walls, the entire family chart had been set up in order that the participants could navigate to their own name in the large tree. We received hats, t-shirts, and other memoralia upon registration. Then the show began with Tekla duHoffmann's very special introduction program followed by welcome speeches from Jenna, Karen and Jon. After the luncheon, Carl did a presentation on how the Hofman-Bang's fitted into the overall Hoffmann picture (see link below). It was then time for the entertainment to start with Donnan Sutherland taking the lead, singing a couple of classic songs. Erik and Gustaf took to the stage with a guitar and sang three songs in total. Karl duHoffmann did a great tap dance and his sons Soeren and Carsten also contributed with songs. The rest of the afternoon was spent mingling and chatting with the participants which numbered over 60 persons. On Sunday, we had the fantastic opportunity to experience a real American outdoor barbeque pool party at Bob and Dona Caccia's home outside the city. We were treated with grilled hamburgers, cold beer and wine. Almost everybody dived in and had a great time.

In the late afternoon, it was time to say goodbye to all our friendly cousins since we had to get up early the following morning. At 7 A.M. we left Sin City going south on I-15 towards Los Angeles and were able to avoid the Memorial Day traffic jams. Already at noon we rolled into Los Angeles on I-101. Manya duHoffmann had made arrangements that we could spend the afternoon at 'her' hotel on Hollywood Boulevard, the famous
Roosevelt Hotel. Joakim and Linda had already decided to remain in L.A. the whole week. We digested our family re-union week around the pool which was crowded with the beautiful people of Tinsel Town. The day dissappeared quickly and we had to drive in a rush to LAX to catch our plane back to Sweden via London, arriving Tuesday evening in Stockholm. What a week it had been!  Our thanks goes to Jon and Lynn but also to all other family members we met and got to know better. Thank You!
