Det landökonomiske...

"Det Landsekonomiske Institut på Hofmansgave 1845-1857". This book was written by Johannes Wendt-Larsen and issued by Odense Stadsarkiv in 2001. It tells the story of the agronomic institute which was operative at Hofmansgave in the years 1845-1857. The institute was a unique since it was the first to recognise the need for an institution to teach owners and managers of large estates both the pratical and theoretical aspects of running a farming operation. The man behind this ground-breaking initiative was
Niels Erik Hofman-Bang, a son of Niels Hofman (Bang). Between the years 1845 and 1857 he ran the institute together with a small teaching staff on totally private basis and manged to educate a total of 58 farmers. The book is based on newly discovered material from the Hofmansgave archives including biographies of the students and letters from the teachers. In addition, the history of the farming education is told up until the creation of the Landbohøjskolen in 1856 and the opening of the school in 1858. The issue of this book co-incides with the publishing of Brevveksling, the book which relates the letter exchange between the Lütken and the Hofman (Bang) families. ISBN 87-90113-14-4 (91 pages). This book can be ordered directly from the author:  Johannes Wendt-Larsen, Engdraget 12 Næsby, 5270 Odense N., Danmark or via mail to: wendt-larsen@mail.tele.dk.  The price is DKR 80.- + shipping.
